Strand Pauli ("Beach" Club)
Open due to the weather in the spring / summer. From the underground station "Landungsbrücken" in about 5 minutes by foot. The Beach Club can also be reached by foot from the Reeperbahn (10 Minutes).
Beach Club Culture in the City
Even if there is no real beach, Hamburg has a growing scene of so called beach clubs that open their doors mostly from around the end of April. In the last years the beach club scene has been modified because some of the old-established beach clubs had to move to other locations. This does not apply to "Strand Pauli" ("Strand" is german for "beach"), who probably offers the best beach feeling in Hamburg (maybe apart from a walk alongside the Elbe River at "Övelgönne").
What to expect at Strand Pauli
The Beach Club Strand Pauli is a hot spot because half of Hamburg seems to meet there if the weather is fine. It is located on the banks of the Elbe River and from the piers (Landungsbrücken) it is very easy to reach by foot (if you stand at the piers and look towards the river - just go to the right). The popularity of Strand Pauli sometimes costs you a good spot to sit down of course. While the Beach Club is not loud (the background music is usually dosed very pleasant), the best places are usually filled quickly. Nevertheless, after shopping or at the beginning of the day - you may come here and chill out. Here you can enjoy a latte just like a pizza, or a cocktail.
A note to parents: The Beach Club is an original: with sand and palm trees! Here the kids can play in the sand on certain areas - for which is provided even some extra sand toys. And for all the early birds: Sundays you can also have breakfast quite good at Strand Pauli! During autumn and Winter the Beach Club Strand Pauli transforms in some kind of restaurant with DJ and campfire. And as a last info: Sure be found here, especially young people and young families. But definitely everybody is welcome.
How to get there:
S-Bahn (lines 1 and 3), metro (Line 3) station "Landungsbrücken", and then take the bridge towards the Elbe and follow the river to the right (about 5 minutes, or 350 meters)
There is next to the Beach Club a paid parking lot (but far from cheap). It lies directly in front of the entrance to the Beach Club (via the Hafenstraße).
